Thank you for visiting the Milton Keynes Seishin Aikido Club web site.

The club was originally formed in 1980 by Alan Sanders and Roger Nye. Both instructors have long since retired from active practice. The club is now run by Ray Munns (3rd Dan), one of Alan and Rogers original students. Milton Keynes Seishin Aikido club is affiliated to the British Aikido Board through its membership of the Lancashire Aikikai, under the guidance of our Principal, Mr. Bob Spence 6th Dan. Our chief instructor is Keith Downs (5th Dan).

We have five instructors qualified by the British Aikido Board.

The club practices traditional Aikido based on the teaching of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. Whilst we practice traditional Aikido, we maintain ourselves to be an open minded Aikido Club, willing to explore the many paths of Aikido.

The club has grown over recent years, we now run both junior and senior classes at our Tattenhoe dojo, and senior classes at our Kents Hill and Open University dojo’s.

  • Costs
    • We are a not for profit club, as such we try to keep all costs down to a minimum. All instructors are volunteers; all monies are channelled back into the running of the club . Membership fees are paid directly to our parent association. The club takes a small admin fee to process new membership applications.

      Training Costs
£5 per session – irregular attendees
£2 per session - irregular unwaged, students and juniors
£20 per month – regular club members - unlimited training in all classes
£10 per month – regular juniors - unlimited training all junior classes

      Membership Cost
      - Seniors £20
      - Student / Under 18 / concessions £14

This fee includes personal indemnity insurance from the British Aikido Board

  • Beginners
    • Beginners are always welcome. You just need some loose clothing (e.g. tracksuit/sweatshirt)
  • Children
    • The junior class takes members between the ages of 9 to 16, after which they can train with the senior class. We limit the junior class to 20 members. Our classes concentrate on developing movement, increasing flexibility, nurturing friendship and building both self-esteem and self-confidence, under the guise of learning a martial art. The most important factor for any child learning a martial art is that they enjoy it (they won’t want to come if they don’t), our classes are taught in a fun, laughter filled environment with the onus on fun. All of our instructors teaching the junior classes have been Police checked and registered with Milton Keynes Council Coach Registration Scheme.

For more details on our children’s class, please contact Bryan on 01908 506390

  • Youth Registration Scheme
    • MK Seishin Aikido club is a registered member of the MK Council Youth Registration Scheme. This scheme has been specifically developed for organizations working with young people. Membership ensures that all of the instructors and assistants in our junior classes have undergone a criminal record background check, and that all of our instructors have valid certification to teach juniors. The instructors at the club are all certified by the British Aikido Board, the governing body for Aikido in the UK, which is in turn recognised by Sports Coach UK, the government’s national coaching foundation. The scheme also ensures that the club applies best practices for the protection and safety of children in our classes.

The club benefits from access to relevant training, information on legal responsibilities including health & safety advice, access to the Council’s wider use funding (subject to qualification) and approval to teach Aikido in any council facility or school in MK. Any groups using Milton Keynes Council properties must be registered in order to use the facilities.

  • Milton Keynes Community Foundation
    • The club has recently benefited from a grant provided by the Milton Keynes Community Foundation. This grant has allowed us to replace our ageing mats and purchase new canvas covers to protect them for years to come. The club is extremely grateful to the foundation for their generosity.
